The POSES is a scale designed to give an indication of a patient’s functioning relative to the self-evaluation of pre-morbid level of functioning (A) vs. time of onset functioning (and an estimate of the present level of functioning as it relates to A and B. The scale can be administered to the patient, significant others, or any person who has knowledge of the patient prior to the Date of Incident). Once the PLOF (C) is established, a goal region can be configured with acceptable levels of future functioning. As the therapy proceeds the progress towards the goal(s) can be plotted periodically during the intervention and also post discharge. Comparison of patient scales to scales completed by others can elicit valuable information related to how realistic the patients and others’ goals are. The bench marks derived in the scale are all internal to the perception of the patient and his/her knowledge of their functioning prior to the incident and their personal estimates of their PLOF as it relates to pre-morbid levels.
